EEG101 Funding Calls Round 1
We are pleased to announce the first funding round of the EEG101 COST Action. Dedicated funding will support collaboration, training, and dissemination activities that advance the Action’s mission to promote open and rigorous EEG science.
The deadline for EEG101 2026 Round 1 for all available schemes is 3rd April 17:00 CET. Any applications submitted after this deadline may be put on a waiting list and considered in a future funding round, but this cannot be guaranteed. Funding decisions for Round 1 are expected to be confirmed by 30 April.
General eligibility
Applicants must be EEG101 Action participants with a primary affiliation to a legal entity located in a COST Full or Cooperating Member country or a COST Near Neighbour Country (COST International Collaboration).
Any exclusions to this will be listed in the text for each call. You can also check your eligibility with this web tool.
Applicants must submit their proposal through e-COST, following the procedures described in the COST Annotated Rules and Grant Awarding User Guide available on the COST Association website. Email submissions of proposals will not be considered. Please carefully review the information for each of the available funding calls below.
Acknowledgement requirements
Each externally visible output produced with support from these funding schemes must acknowledge the support of the COST Action and whenever possible use the COST and EEG101 logos (e.g. on presentation slides and posters). Manuscripts must include the following acknowledgement statement:
Example acknowledgement statement:
This publication is based on work supported by the European COST Action CA24148: ‘EEG101 - Fundamentals of Open & Rigorous EEG Science’.
Need guidance before applying?
Submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) to receive feedback that can help align your proposal with EEG101 objectives. This step is NOT mandatory, but is available if you are unsure about the fit and feel that you could benefit from advice.
Note that this feedback will not in any way impact on the final outcome from a full proposal and to avoid conflicts of interest it is reviewed by a different team to the Grants Awarding Committee. Please allow 7 days for a response to your submission and factor this timeframe in for your application.
Short Term Scientific Missions
Encouraging institutional exchange visits
Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) are exchange visits aimed at supporting individual mobility, strengthening existing networks and fostering collaboration between COST Action Participants. STSMs should specifically contribute to the scientific objectives of the COST Action, whilst at the same time allowing the grantees to learn new techniques, gain access to specific data, instruments and/or methods not available in their own institutions/organizations.
Participating in the COST Action STSM program is a great opportunity to develop collaborative work on research topics that are related to the strategic objectives of EEG101 Working Groups or to introduce new ideas that address these objectives. Detailed content and goals of each WG are indicated in the Action’s Memorandum of Understanding or MoU (EEG101 MoU).
Eligibility
STSMs must respect the following criteria:
- The STSM applicant and the Host institution are in different countries.
- STSMs must last at least five days (including travel) and must be completed within the current Grant Period (by 31 October 2026).
- There is a maximum financial support of €4000 per STSM.
STSM Application Procedure
Please include all of the following information and supporting documents in your application:
-
A summary of the main scientific goals and need for the STSM (including relevance for the applicant, and benefit for the home/host institutions), a working plan, an explanation and justification for how the budget will be spent (i.e. budget for (i) travel, (ii) accommodation, (iii) other costs; do not include daily allowances), as well as its expected outputs and contribution to the Action objectives and deliverables.
-
Invitation/Agreement Letter: A letter signed by a senior researcher affiliated to the host institution detailing the aim, starting date, and duration of the STSM.
-
Letter of Support: A letter signed by a senior researcher from the home institution confirming the STSM and its aim.
-
Applicant CV: A brief CV that highlights recent publications/outcomes (English).
Evaluation of applications
The EEG101 Grant Awarding committee will assess each proposal and provide an evaluation score based on several factors including:
- The clarity and quality of the proposal;
- The degree to which the proposed STSM complements or contributes to the strategic priorities and objectives of the Action as defined in the MoU;
- The feasibility of the planned work plan and outputs, and the ability of the STSM applicant to disseminate relevant outputs.
Proposals should clearly explain how the STSM will benefit both the applicant and the objectives of EEG101.
Criteria considered for final decision after evaluation
Please note that the EEG101 selection policy promotes gender balance, geographical inclusiveness, and the participation of new members and Young Researchers and Innovators (under the age of 40 by the end of the STSM). Where quality of proposals is equal, preference will be given to maximise geographical distribution and gender balance of applicants across the same STSM call.
Reporting
After completing the STSM, the recipient must submit a brief report outlining the results of their visit (see template here). The report must be submitted no later than 30 days following the end date of the STSM, or 15 days before the end of the Grant Period (October 31st 2026), whichever comes first. It is important to note that if the report is not submitted on time, the funds will be revoked.
Once the report has been approved by the Grant Awarding committee (STSM coordinator, Grant holder, WG leaders and Chair), the grant payment is expected to be processed within 30 days.
Conference Grants
Supporting international meetings participation and EEG101 dissemination
Three different types of grants are provided to support attendance at international scientific meetings that are NOT organized by EEG101:
- Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITC) Conference Grants, limited to researchers and innovators with a primary affiliation to a legal entity located in a COST ITC and Near Neighbour Countries (NNC).
- Young Researchers and Innovators (YRI) Conference Grants, limited to young researchers and innovators (under the age of 40).
- Dissemination Conference Grants, open to any Action participant with a primary affiliation to a legal entity located in a COST Full or Partner Member country or a COST Near Neighbour Country.
Eligibility
To confirm your eligibility, you may use the Eligibility web tool.
Key eligibility requirements:
- Applicants must have an invitation for an oral presentation at a high-level conference (*for YRI poster presentations are accepted as well) fully organized by a third party and NOT organized by the COST Action. The grantee receives support for attending and presenting their work to establish new contacts for future collaborations.
- ITC and YRI Conference Grants are aimed to contribute to the overall travel, accommodation, registration fees, and meal expenses to attend science and technology events related to EEG101.
- Conference Grants support the visibility and impact of the COST Action by funding conference presentations. They aim to promote research findings, facilitate knowledge exchange, and enhance the outreach of EEG101. -The maximum financial support per conference is €2500 (in person event) and 500 for an online conference presentation. Note that for online conferences only presentations will be eligible and not posters or flash talks. -Please note the EEG101 selection policy promotes gender balance, geographical inclusiveness, and the participation of new members and Young Researchers and Innovators (under the age of 40).

Virtual Mobility Grants
Fostering knowledge exchange, strengthening networks, and supporting Action objectives.
Virtual Mobility consists of a collaboration in a virtual setting among researchers or innovators within the COST Action, to exchange knowledge, learn new techniques, and similar activities. Examples of activities that can be performed by the VM grantee include, but are not limited to:
- Virtual mentoring schemes, with a special focus on activities and exchanges that can generate capacity building and new skills, particularly for Young Researchers and Innovators (e.g., managerial skills, methodological skills, communication skills, etc.)
- Support of the harmonisation and standardisation of methods and procedures within the Action networking activities, e.g.:
- Setting up a survey among all Action members to collect different results and outcomes from experiments done in their respective labs and research groups;
- Coordinating discussions to create common protocols to be used by the network afterward;
- Preparing questionnaires and response scales to be used by the Action members as part of virtual networking activities.
- Support the implementation of research coordination related activities that do not necessarily require in-person presence, e.g.:
- Computational or modelling activities;
- Data analysis of the Action for a specific report or activity.
- Content preparation and coordination of science communication activities, e.g.:
- Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs);
- Online workshops, such as ‘webinar series’ or ‘TV series’-like format;
- Online COST Action workshops in external international conferences or events, when the applicant can demonstrate a role in the organising committee, that could help in the promotion of the Action activities.
VM Grants should contribute to the scientific objectives of our COST Action, and respect COST policies.
Up to 1500 EUR per VM Grant; should reflect the complexity of work that will be performed. Financial support comes as a grant; therefore, no invoices or other justification of the expenses will be requested. The VM Grants cannot be used to attend virtual conferences or to purchase software licenses or set up a database.
Eligibility
All WG members from COST Full and Cooperating Countries and Near Neighbour Countries, in cooperation with a host institution that is also a WG member, are welcome to submit a proposal. Special attention will be given to excellence and exclusiveness. Relevance to deliverables according to the specific grant period will be prioritised. The grant in its full amount is awarded to the applicant.
Reporting
After the VM Grant activity is finished, the grantee is required to submit a short scientific report to the Action MC, no later than 30 days after the end date of the VM Grant activity, or 15 days after the end of the Grant Period, whichever date comes first. Failure to submit the scientific report within 30 days will effectively cancel the award.
The Action Chair or Grant Awarding Coordinator is responsible for approving the scientific report and informing the Grant Holder that the VM Grant has been successfully accomplished. After receipt of the approval by email, the Grant Holder will execute the payment of the grant.
Please note that the reimbursement of VM grantees will be done after the activity is over and the final report is submitted by the VM grantee. Exceptions to this rule cannot be granted.
